Every child has the right to education. The law requires that children of school-going age must be enrolled in school and supported to attend regularly. No child should be kept at home or denied access to education without a lawful and justifiable reason.

Although children may assist their families with light household duties, such activities must not interfere with their education, health, safety, or general development.

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, the National Commission for Civic Education, and a member of the Volta River Foundation visited Eagle FM as part of a child abuse and child protection education program.

The discussion focused on the need for parents, guardians, and the general public to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and hazardous labour. It was emphasized that any situation where underage children are engaged in hazardous work, denied education, or exposed to abuse must be reported to the appropriate authorities for action.

The team encouraged parents and guardians to take their responsibilities seriously by enrolling their children in school, monitoring their behaviour, providing proper guidance, and protecting them from harmful practices.

They further called on community members to report cases of child abuse, neglect, school denial, child labour, and other child protection concerns to the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, the police, traditional authorities, or other relevant institutions.

The program also highlighted the importance of collaboration among parents, community leaders, government institutions, civil society organizations, and the media in promoting child protection and ensuring the welfare of every child.

The public was encouraged to support child protection efforts and help create a safe environment where children can learn, grow, and develop into responsible future leaders.
