The meeting, held on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2026, brought together members of the reconstituted District Health Committee, officials of the Ghana Health Service, representatives of religious bodies, traditional authorities, and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

The purpose of the meeting was to inaugurate the Committee, introduce members to their mandate, and discuss ways of strengthening collaboration to improve health outcomes in Ada East.

Speaking at the opening session, the District Director of Health Services welcomed members and expressed appreciation for their willingness to serve on the Committee. The Director noted that the formation of the Committee was an important step towards improving coordination, planning, monitoring, and stakeholder participation in the delivery of health services within the District.

The District Chief Executive for Ada East formally inaugurated the Committee and charged members to discharge their duties with dedication, integrity, and impartiality. He emphasized that health remains a key pillar of the District’s development agenda and assured members of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote quality healthcare delivery.

He further urged the Committee to work closely with the Ghana Health Service, the District Assembly, communities, traditional authorities, religious bodies, and development partners to address challenges affecting healthcare delivery in the District.

As part of the programme, the District Director of Health Services made a presentation on the purpose, roles, and functions of the District Health Committee. The presentation highlighted the Committee’s responsibility in supporting health service delivery, promoting stakeholder participation in health planning, mobilizing resources, monitoring health sector performance, and supporting public health education and disease prevention activities.

The Committee was also briefed on the current state of health in the Ada East District. The presentation covered health infrastructure, service coverage, maternal and child health services, immunization performance, disease surveillance, human resource capacity, public health programmes, and other interventions being implemented in the District.

Key challenges identified included inadequate health infrastructure in some communities, staff shortages in critical service areas, insufficient logistics for outreach and emergency services, limited funding for health promotion activities, and the growing demand for healthcare services.

Despite these challenges, the District Health Directorate reported some improvements in areas such as immunization coverage, disease surveillance, and maternal health interventions.

During the open discussion, members made useful contributions towards strengthening health service delivery in the District. Issues discussed included the need to increase community participation in health programmes, intensify public education on sanitation and preventive healthcare, improve collaboration between health facilities and traditional authorities, and advocate for the expansion and rehabilitation of health infrastructure in underserved communities.

Representatives of religious organizations pledged their support for health awareness campaigns within their respective congregations, while traditional leaders also assured the Committee of their commitment to promoting community health initiatives.

At the end of the meeting, the Committee resolved to meet quarterly to review health sector performance and support the implementation of health programmes in the District. The District Health Directorate was also tasked to provide periodic reports to guide the Committee’s deliberations and decision-making.

Members further agreed to support health promotion activities, advocate for improved health infrastructure, mobilize resources for health programmes, and strengthen stakeholder engagement to enhance community ownership of health initiatives.

The inaugural meeting successfully laid the foundation for the operations of the Ada East District Health Committee and reaffirmed the commitment of stakeholders to improving healthcare delivery in the District.

The Chairperson thanked members for their participation and encouraged them to remain committed to the work of the Committee. The meeting ended with a closing prayer.
