The Ada East District Assembly commemorated the 69th Independence Anniversary of Ghana with a district celebration held at Dove Park on Friday, 6th March 2026.
The event brought together traditional authorities, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and Agencies, security services, teachers, students and members of the public to mark the historic occasion. Activities commenced with the arrival of dignitaries and participating school contingents.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer, followed by the ministerial salute and the recitation of the national pledge. The District Chief Executive, Hon. Kenneth Kabu Kanor, together with the security heads, conducted the inspection of the parade.
Delivering the welcome address, the District Director of Education, Mr. Ferguson Akey, noted that the Independence Day celebration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s forebears in securing Ghana’s independence under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana. He commended teachers for their continued dedication to nurturing the future leaders of the country and encouraged students to remain focused on their studies while urging parents to support their children’s education.

In his Independence Anniversary address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kenneth Kabu Kanor, reflected on the significance of Ghana’s independence and the sacrifices made by the country’s forebears in the struggle for freedom. He noted that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” aligns with the national vision of the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to rebuild the economy, restore public confidence and promote inclusive development.
Hon. Kanor highlighted the development potential of the Ada East District, particularly in agriculture, fishing and tourism, and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to initiatives that will enhance economic growth and improve the living conditions of residents.
He further called on residents to contribute to the development of the district by protecting public property, paying their rates and taxes, maintaining sanitation in their communities and upholding peace and unity.
The ceremony concluded with three hearty cheers for Ghana and announcements, bringing the district’s 69th Independence Day celebration to a successful close.
