The Ada Foah Area Council is a decentralised sub-structure of the Ada East District Assembly with twelve (12) electoral areas under its jurisdiction, established under the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and formalised through the relevant Legislative Instrument, 2010 (L.I. 1967), which established Urban, Zonal and Town/Area Councils. The Council serves as the administrative and participatory governance unit closest to the people within its jurisdiction. Mandate and Functions The Area Council exists to promote grassroots participation in local governance and support effective service delivery. Its core functions include: Mobilizing community members for development planning and implementation. Assisting the District Assembly in the collection of revenue within the Area Council. Facilitating the provision, maintenance, and monitoring of basic infrastructure and services. Promoting environmental sanitation, public education, and community engagement. Monitoring and reporting on development projects within the Area Council’s jurisdiction. The Ada Foah Area Council plays a vital role in bringing governance closer to the people and ensuring inclusive, participatory, and sustainable development across the district.
