Atortorkope — 17th August, 2026
The Ada East District Assembly has inaugurated its District Spatial Planning Committee (SPC) and Technical Sub-Committee (TSC), marking a major step in strengthening the district’s oversight of physical development and land use planning.
The ceremony, held at the District Assembly Hall, Atortorkope, brought together appointed members of both Committees, alongside Assembly officials and invited guests. The two bodies are established under the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925), which designates the District Assembly as the spatial and human settlement planning authority for the district, exercised through these Committees.
In the opening remarks of the District Chief Executive – Hon. Kenneth Kabu Kanor welcomed members to the inauguration and underscored the importance of the Committees in guiding orderly physical development across the district.
The Secretary to the committees Pln. Frank Awenate Yaro (MGIP)- District Physical Planning Officer took members through the mandate and functions of both Committees, highlighting their role in
preparing and reviewing spatial development plans, reviewing and approving development applications, and ensuring compliance with planning regulations.
The high point of the ceremony was the swearing-in of appointed members of the Spatial Planning Committee and Technical Sub-Committee, administered by the District Court Magistrate, Her Worship Victoria Akua Ghansah. With the oath duly administered, the two Committees are now formally constituted and empowered to begin discharging their statutory responsibilities.
In his closing remarks, the District Chief Executive, as Chairperson of the Spatial Planning Committee, charged the newly sworn-in members to serve with diligence and commitment to the district’s development agenda. The event closed with a group photograph.
Following the inauguration, the newly sworn-in District Spatial Planning Committee convened its first meeting on the same day, 17th August,2026. This immediate sitting enabled the Committee to commence the discharge of its statutory functions without delay, in fulfilment of the monthly meeting requirement under section 41 of Act 925.
